Hi, I am Buddy and that seems like a perfect name for me because I like to be friends with everyone, horse and human. There was nothing special about me…a tired Amish work horse, but I tried to be a good boy as they recorded a little video at the kill pen that they said could save me from a death sentence in Mexico. I am so grateful that Healing Hearts and Horses liked me, because I love it here! Unfortunately, I did test positive for EPM, but HHH said that they would find the money for the medicine and I am feeling much better. They say that I am going to be used for the veterans and the foster kids when they come visit the farm and I can’t wait to meet them too! I sure could use a sponsor, so thank you for reading about me!
Aren’t I pretty? Everyone tells me that I am a beauty, and I don’t disagree. I am a 14-year-old Kentucky Mountain Horse, which means that I am gaited. Apparently, I am pretty unusual because I am a Buckskin paint, which is a really unique combination. They tell me that I am a great all-around horse and used for all our programming!
I arrived at the rescue in late October 2023. Everyone gasped as I got off the trailer, I did not realize that I had lost so much weight. Sitting in a kill pen is really stressful and many times we have to fight the more dominant horses for a chance to eat at the hay bale. I did not have a lot of fight in me. The people at the rescue feed me two huge bowls of warm, soaked grain every day and now I get a lot of hay because all the horses get along here. I am so lucky. Please sponsor me…I cost the rescue a lot of money because I eat so much and have to be checked by the vet often – but they tell me that I am worth it.
Often referred to as “Prince Harry”, this sweet Tennessee Walker gelding is always a favorite. Saved from a Texas kill pen in August 2019, Harry was one of our most abused horses. Severely malnourished with more crop marks than we could count from where he was hit, Harry is truly lives up to his name under saddle and is a prince for his riders.
To the one who started it all…sweet LadyBelle was saved in the Summer of 2017 from a kill pen in Tennessee. We all fell in love with her and decided that we could do more. When we think about how many horses have been saved because of LadyBelle, we can’t help but be grateful for her!
Hello there, thank you for reading my profile! I came from a kill pen in Texas about 4 years ago and they said that I was once a Polo pony so now they call me Polo. I am about 18 years old now and a sweet teddy bear of a quarter horse cross. I absolutely LOVE kids. I would love to have a little girl be my sponsor so that she can come visit me!
Well, hello there Cowboys and Cowgirls, meet Tex. Saved from a kill pen in Tex, this Palomino Quarter Horse gelding is solid and stout. He will do whatever is asked of him, walk, trot or lope. He loves to get brushed and his “Fabio” mane in a guest favorite!
She wowed us all the moment we saw her. Her marble grey coloring was so unique…but she was an unhandled 3 year old when we bought her and that was something we had never done. Luckily, she’s been with us for 3 years now and she has learned to love and trust us. We are working on getting her under saddle. Cool fact - we do not even try to ride our horses until they are 5 years old so that their legs and backs have a chance to fully develop.
A retired Off the Track Thoroughbred, Barron is a racehorse whose career ended before it really even began. Sadly, there are many OTTBs in the slaughter pipeline. We were glad we could help him. Barron is just a “pasture pet” and not ridden anymore. As you can tell, Barron is a character and LOVES treats!
The only horse that was born on the farm…Liberty was a July 4th baby. We had saved her mom from a kill pen in Tennessee and two weeks later we walked out to find two horse in the stall. Liberty has never known a harsh hand and thinks she is a person!
As big and as strong as his name. Patriot was saved from a kill pen in Texas and when he arrived he was extremely sick with double pneumonia. We were not sure if he would make it, but after a month in the equine hospital he returned to the farm and got stronger. At 17.1 hands, Patriot is a favorite among our taller riders.
Chief was saved from a Kill Buyer in Texas in the fall of 2023. He had such a kind eye, we could not let him ship to Mexico. He is in his early 20s and is available for light riding. He is a Tennessee Walker gelding and loves life on the farm.
There are not enough words to describe the love this horse gives to everyone he meets. He is a puppy dog in the pasture and is loved by every human being he meets. Treats or not treats, Winston is the same love bug every single day and was the favorite horse of our founder and matriarch, Camille Ryan.
Hello friends, I am Billy Graham and I understand that I share the name of a pretty famous preacher! That works out well for me, because my previous owner as a Pastor. I wish he had not taken me to a kill pen, but he fell on hard times and was very old and likely did not understand what was going to happen to me. I am so grateful because Healing Hearts and Horses saw my video and because God is such a big part of their work, they felt like I needed to be there to help other people heal from their hurts. I hope that I can do that because I love helping others. I sure could use a sponsor, because I am new here and I don’t have a lot of friends yet. Sponsors get to come visit us and brush us and give us treats. I even get to send you a letter every once in a while!
This horse had loaded the truck and we had her pulled off at the very last minute. What a blessing she has been to us! This horse does all she can to please her rider. She was sold to us as “early 20s” but the vet says she is mid-to-late 20s. Unfortunately, her arthritis has gotten to the point that she cannot be ridden. We are making her as comfortable as possible.
People tell me that I am a farm favorite. I just say that I am a typical Quarter Horse, I have a strong heart and a strong back. They tell me that I am a solid citizen and I try to do whatever is asked of me, for any level rider. I am a Buckskin color and love treats!
Everyone tells me that I am a real character, but it’s only because I like to have ALL the attention. I am a Missouri Fox Trotter gelding, and baby I love to be loved! I was actually given to HHH by a local family who had saved me from a kill pen a few years ago. Sadly, they were taking care of elderly parents out of state and had to rehome me. I am so glad that I could come here and have a safe home.
People call me Oreo because I look like an Oreo cookie – black and white and super sweet. I am one lucky horse because my owner did not sell me to a kill pen. She instead approached the rescue after an exhaustive search to rehome me and said no one wanted me because I am on the older side. That said, I am healthy and trainer and can go for long rides. I love to be with ladies, so you will see me in a pasture full of mares where I can be the kill of the hill. I am grateful to be here and I’ll tell you a secret – I stick my face in my feeding bowl half way up my nose and I like it really soupy. When the team saw me eat, they thought that I would drown – but nope, that’s the way I roll baby!
We don’t talk about Bru-no-no-no! Wait, we DO talk about Bruno because I am a good boy. At only 12 years old, I was sold by the Amish when I lost sight in one of my eyes. I am so grateful that Healing Hearts and Horses could look past by disability and see that I can still be a good, useful horse! I have a brother here named Charlie Daniels, who lost his eye too so we joke that between the two of us, we can see normally! I love being here and I am ridden by the wranglers and even some of the confident kids and veterans.
Named after one of my favorite country singers, I am a Rocky Mountain horse and have been at the rescue for a longer time than most. I lost sight in one of my eyes and it actually hurt a lot, so I am thankful that the rescue paid to have it removed. I know I look a little different, but I can still be ridden and the veterans love me because they see that I may not be whole physically, but have found a new purpose by being here! HHH is all about love and redemption and I am so grateful to be here!
